Kelvin Mak – Executive Producer / Creative Director
Location: Bangkok / Beijing / Hong Kong / Los Angeles
Kelvin Mak is the black sheep of a very large, very conservative Chinese-Malaysian family. After a childhood spent tormenting his 40-odd cousins, Kelvin packed his bags and headed for the US at the tender age of 18.
Following his Hollywood fantasies of pool parties and hanging out with the Baldwin brothers, Kelvin enrolled in the prestigious Art Center College of Design in California. Finding that his fantasies were unfounded, Kelvin abandoned his dreams of pool party-dom and focused on schoolwork instead. He was quickly rewarded with the position of Art Director at boutique ad agency, G&M Plumbing.
Long hours at the office and millions of take-out meals later, Kelvin got a little potbelly and a boatload of television commercials. Kelvin’s knowledge of TVCs and junk food gave him the edge required to move up the agency world – securing the position as Creative Director at Saatchi & Saatchi Beijing in 2006.
China proved to be the perfect place for Kelvin to take creative chances, but that little black sheep in the back of his mind just wouldn’t go away. So he decided to leave Saatchi to step out on his own. And thus, The Bag Ladies was born. Originally a graphic design shop, TBL has evolved into a full-service production company. In the last few years alone, Kelvin has guided the company to producing high quality, edgy TVCs, award-winning online short films and documentaries for various brands and ad agencies.
Kelvin is also an illustrator, designer, writer and avid vintage motorcyclist especially on his beloved WWII-era sidecar motorcycle.
